I'm all about side-hustles. It's almost an addiction... obsession, even.
This is why side-hustles will always have a special place in my heart. 🙂
So... What's a Side-Hustle?
A side-hustle is a way to make extra money "on the side" - outside of your 9 to 5 job. Many people find themselves with not much left over after paying rent, food, and transportation… but a side hustle brings in extra income, lowering your financial burdens. And if you combine a few of these side-hustles, you can even earn a full-time income!
Keep in Mind Tho...
Working from home requires discipline, organization, and focus.
You're not gonna make anything remotely worth your time & effort by half-azz-ing anything. It’ll take a bit of trial and error to figure out what works best for you and you must be driven to keep going even when you feel like nothing is happening.
But the results will be more than worth it! Because bestie, money CAN buy happiness. Not having to worry about bills being paid... and the ability to take care of your family's necessities... BLISS!!!
I've compiled and organized this humongous list of side-hustles to help you escape from the paycheck-to-paycheck stress... save for a house or a dream vacation even!
So without further ado... let's begin!
Make Money Doing What You Already Do Anyway
Here are some of my favorite ways to save money and line your wallets -> without having to do or change anything.
Open a High-Yield Savings Account with Varo
You do this anyway: You have a bank account anyway... why not add an account to your portfolio that helps you save money?
National average interest you earn from a bank savings account is .10%. Nothing to write home about. But Varo offers up to 5% APY!
Plus NO FEES! No ATM fees at 55,000+ locations worldwide. No foreign transaction fees. No monthly fees. And no other fees. Get your paycheck up to 2 days early by setting up direct deposit to your Varo Bank Account.
I love this bank because it supports the growth of your savings.
- Save Your Pay: Takes a percentage of your Varo direct deposits and automatically transfers it to your Savings (you choose the %)
- Save Your Change: Rounds up every transaction to the nearest dollar and transfers that amount from your Varo Bank Account to your Savings
<$$$> BONUS: Signup with my link and get $30 when you make a purchase totaling at least $20 using your Varo debit card!
Stop Hidden Money Leaks with Trim
You do this anyway: We actually don't have to do anything for this to work. Trim analyzes your spending patterns to discover ways to save money... whether it's to negotiate lower prices on our behalf or cancel old subscriptions we practically forgot about.
Trim is a free tool that lines your wallet in 3 ways:
- Getting you cash back when prices drop on stuff you bought.
- Negotiating better deals on your cable or Internet service.
- Finding and canceling subscriptions you don’t use.
So while Trim doesn't "add" additional cash into your wallet, it protects you from parting with more cash than you need to.
Invest Your Spare Change with Acorns
You do this anyway: Another one that we don't have to actually do anything for it to work (besides make purchases like we normally do).
The free Acorns app gives you a simple way to automatically invest your change. Purchases you make with your debit or credit card are rounded up to the next dollar, and that change is automatically invested back into your Acorns investment account.
If you can relate to one of the following, you will benefit from Acorns:
- You are not currently investing or saving money.
- You want to be able to save money when you make a purchase.
- You don't know how to invest so you want an app to do it for you.
Acorns has a monthly fee of $3 - $9:
- $3/mo for the Acorns automated investing account
- $5/mo for the Acorns + Acorns Later retirement IRA account
- $9/mo for the two above, plus Acorns Spend checking account
Acorns's $3/mo account is free for college students. Enter “student” in the occupation field of your sign-up form and provide a valid college email, and you’ll get Acorns free for up to 4 years!
Acorns doesn't require a minimum to open the account, but you'll need a total of $5 spare change saved to start investing. There are no minimums or restrictions for withdrawing your cash, so it doesn’t matter if you want $5 or $5000 transferred back into your bank account… if it’s in your Acorns account, it’s yours to take.

This helps unlock higher paying jobs, which can pay up to $90!

Get Paid For Your Opinions
Earn cash and rewards for taking surveys! It may not make you a millionaire, but that’s extra cash you can earn for just a few minutes of your time! Here are three sites I’ve successfully registered to report back on this article, and have earned a few bucks already:
- Swagbucks – There is no limit to the amount of Swagbucks you can earn, and they can be redeemed for gift cards to just about anywhere.
- Opinion Outpost – They offer rewards via Amazon or iTunes Gift Cards or cash deposited into your Paypal account. Plus every entry enters you into a $10,000 quarterly prize draw!
- Vindale Research – Review products and take simple online surveys. They pay up to $75 per survey/review!
Usually the surveys are one-on-one interviews either in-person or over the phone / video chat. The average survey is 30 minutes long and average pay is $140 per hour.
Earn $5 - $25 gift cards from Amazon, Walmart, Target... even Paypal Cash, by taking surveys, playing games, shopping online, watching videos, or just searching the web! I tell people that Swagbucks sponsors my Frap addiction because of all the Starbucks gift cards I get from them. 😆

Make Money With Your Online Store
Did you know that you don’t even need to have your own products or services to earn a paycheck? This is the beauty of affiliate marketing. You promote other people’s stuff and when someone buys, you collect a cut of the sale price! That’s it. No need to carry an inventory, deliver the product, or provide support to the customers! Where do you promote affiliate products? On your blog, social media, articles you write… pretty much anywhere! Here are some popular networks that offer ad links to earn some cash from:
- Rakuten Linkshare – My favorite network. You can promote popular brands such as Starbucks, iTunes, and Walmart, as well as products offered by smaller companies
- Amazon – They’re tied with Linkshare as my favorite network. You can promote books, audio books, video games, clothing, kitchen tools, even car parts! You can earn up to 10% commission on majority of what’s being sold on their website! They pay their associates like clockwork, which I love.
- Clickbank – Their online marketplace contains tens of thousands of products to choose from, and you can earn commissions as high as 75%!
- JVZoo – Huge variety of products to promote; from business, cooking, and education, to foreign language, gambling, and travel!
- Shareasale – These guys have over 3,900 merchants to promote from including: Beachbody, Zazzle, Craftsy, Juleep, and Weebly. They always pay on time too!
This is such a simple and cost effective solution for bringing in some extra cash, and it requires no inventory or overhead.
- Choose a product to sell online, like Ebay (let’s say it’s a computer mouse that costs you $2)
- Mark up the price and list it for $15
- When it’s sold, you send the drop shipper your buyer’s information, including the $2. You keep the remaining $13!
- Drop shipper ships it directly to your customer!
- Rinse and repeat!
- Here’s a big list of drop shippers for a huge variety of products that you can search through!
Set Up an Online Store

Get Paid to Test Websites
Companies as well as individuals (myself included) routinely look for feedback on the usability of their websites. And now you can make money doing just that! My favorite service, UserTesting pays their testers $10 for every 20 minute session they complete! Click here for a list of sites where you can create an account and start earning cash right away.

Make Money with Your Car
Lyft – You’ve probably heard of “driving for dollars” with services like Uber and Lyft, but it doesn’t get much simpler than this. One driver of mine on a recent trip put it this way: “When I want to make money, I turn on the app.”
Lyft is currently offering a $1,150 first month guarantee for new drivers.
Uber – Uber is the proverbial 800 pound gorilla of the sharing economy. Their pioneering ridesharing platform offers the opportunity to essentially start your own taxi service and earn money on your own schedule driving your neighbors around.
One cool “hack”: Both companies offer “Destination Mode”, which basically allows you to earn money on your regular morning and evening commute by telling the app which direction you’re headed and only accepting riders along your route.
HyreCar – If you don’t have a car but still want to get in on some of these driving side hustles, HyreCar will rent you one, and states average drivers nets $1000 a week even after the rental fee. And if you have an underused car, you can make money renting it out to others who needs a car to drive for Lyft/Uber!
UberEATS – If you don’t like the idea of driving other people around or having other people drive your car, delivering takeout orders with UberEATS could be an option for you.
DoorDash – Make up to $25 an hour as a food delivery driver for DoorDash.
Instacart – Get paid to shop for and deliver other people’s groceries. Enjoy weekly payouts and a flexible schedule.
Postmates – Ride, drive, or walk to make local deliveries in your town and earn up $25 an hour doing so.
Other Delivery Services
Caviar – Another food delivery app.
JoyRun – Deliver takeout meals in your spare time with the JoyRun app to make extra cash. Some users report earning $10,000 in a year of JoyRunning.
Shipt – A grocery delivery service, currently serving cities in the southern US. According to their site you can earn up to $22 an hour as a shopper and delivery driver.
Rinse – Become a Rinse valet driver and help pick-up and deliver laundry and dry cleaning in your neighborhood.
Alfred – Sign on as a professional “Alfred” — a modern day urban butler sold on a subscription membership model — and get paid to run errands for busy clients.
Saucey – Get paid to delivery alcohol.
Munchery – Earn $20 an hour plus reimbursement for mileage and data delivering meals in your neighborhood.
Amazon Flex – Earn $18-25 an hour making deliveries for Amazon in select markets.
Deliv – Another on-demand delivery app where drivers can earn up to $22 an hour running errands and delivering goods locally.
Deliveroo – European app-powered food delivery service.
Turo – Turo is a leader in the peer-to-peer car rental space. If driving people around Uber-style isn’t your jam, you might consider this as an alternative.
Your car probably sits idle at least some of the time and the idea behind Turo is to put that idle time to use — and earn $500 a month or more. They’ve even got a cool little calculator on their site to estimate how much you might earn.
HyreCar – Make money with your under-utilized car by renting it out to ridesharing/delivery drivers like Uber, Lyft, and Grubhub! Car owners who list their vehicles with HyreCar make up to $12,000/year for each car listed!
GetAround – GetAround is a similar concept to Turo, and has car owners earning up to $10,000 a year and rental periods as short as one hour. There’s no rule that says you can’t list on both markets, but you’ll just have to remember to update the availability calendar if certain dates get booked on one platform and not the other.
RV Share – Rent out your RV when you’re not using it for $200 or more per day on RV Share, “the largest and most trusted RVing community. Top renters are earning $15-30k a year.
Outdoorsy – Rent out your RV on the Outdoorsy.com peer-to-peer marketplace and earn $150-$350 per day. The company handles bookings and payments, and carries $1 million in insurance should anything happen to your rig on the open road.
Wrapify – When you sign up with Wrapify, your car gets covered with a giant advertisement and you earn money based on how far you drive. A typical commuter in a popular area could earn $400-$600 a month.
Carvertise – If you have a 2005 model year car or newer and drive 800+ miles a month, you may qualify to earn $300-650 per campaign with Carvertise. The company has been around since 2012 and is one of the more established players in this space.
Make money With Your Stuff
Rent Out Your Car
Make extra cash renting out your car with Turo! Perfect if you have a second car that’s usually sitting in the garage. Even better… get paid for renting out your car while you’re away on vacation! You control the price and availability and you decide who rents your car. Your car is covered by their $1,000,000 liability policy during every rental, covering any damage to or theft from your car, with no out-of-pocket expenses. Each renter is thoroughly screened for your safety.
Rent Out Your Driveway or Garage
I had no idea my driveway could be a source of income! If you have space in your garage or driveway, JustPark might be for you. Listing your parking space is totally free, and you choose the dates your space is available, as well as the amount you would like to receive per day, week, and month.
Rent Out a Room in Your Home or Apartment for Cash
Listing your space on Airbnb is free. You set the price, your availability, and reservation requirements for your guests. You can also set custom prices to earn more during popular travel seasons! You can review each potential guest’s profiles and the reviews they’ve received to help you accept a booking only if you’re 100% comfortable. Their support team is available 24 hours a day, and every eligible booking is covered by their Host Guarantee at no additional cost to you.
Get Paid for Being a Friend
Whoever said money can’t buy friendship has never heard of Rent a Friend! I’m not even kidding. You go to their website and offer your friendship for $10 to $50 per hour. You set your own price and what types of activities you’re available for! The website clearly states that it is NOT a dating site, but a service offering companionship; someone to show you around an unfamiliar town, for example.
It’s not something you can really do from home, unless what you’re offering is home-based, such as teaching your “new friend” to bake or scrapbook from your home (not something I’d personally recommend). However, earning money to show someone the best local restaurants for a few hours or helping them shop for gifts isn’t such a bad way to make extra cash while the kids are at school! Some users claim to earn over $2000 a week full time, and others who just work on the weekends and make $500.
Drive People Around for $35/hour
That’s how much you can make with Lyft, a service that eliminates the need to use taxis. You drive your own car, set your own working hours, and earn $35 per hour.
Yes, I know you have kids of your own, but look at it as getting paid to host a playdate! You’re a terrific parent and a wonderful caregiver, so if this is something you think you might enjoy trying, why not get paid for it? Advertise your babysitting services for free on SitterCity and Care.
Recycle Your Old Mobile Devices
Did you know that you can actually get cash for your old cell phones? You know you’ve got a couple hidden somewhere. I dug up an old iPhone, a couple of Motorolas, a Nokia, and a Blackberry… let’s see what you can find! Check out how much your ancient phone is worth on Gazelle!
There you have it! This list should be more than enough to keep you busy making money! Happy earning!
